Some eclipse photos

Last night, we set up on campus to observe the lunar eclipse. Things didn’t look so good at first — nothing but clouds, and a forecast for rain. But, looking at the satellite images in the afternoon, and looking at the type of clouds that we had, I had a feeling that it might clear up some after sunset.
Well, it cleared even more than I had hoped. The clouds began to clear just about the time that the eclipse started. We got some good views of the eclipse. Things were a bit hectic, so I didn’t get a chance to set my camera on a tripod. I took the following pictures using simply a Nikon D70 with 300mm lens, and holding it by hand! Some of the photos were taken through a thin haze. Eventually it clouded over when the Moon was partway out of the umbra. So, we got to see most of it.
These are not the best eclipse pictures in the word, but remember that they were taken hand-held, so that isn’t too bad.
