More on the hacking.

Well, I did a little checking, as I often do, as to who links to my site. All of a sudden, there has been a sudden surge in links. However, when I checked on those links, I found that they were not to my site at all, but to something that some @#$#%@#$”>$#%@#$* had loaded onto my site! This is more of the earlier hacking, I think. Anyway, following those links you get to loads of spammy sites out there in the intenet. Apparently, they put those links on other people’s sites to that subdirectory that they added to my site, and then put links to that subdirectory that they created here to link to their own sites. So, I deleted the whole folder of things. Since the corrective action several days ago, I don’t think that they’ve gotten in again, so this is damage from before. This really burns me up. You have people like this who are really making a mess of the internet. They are hacking into other people’s sites and sending spam across the internet. A few bad apples make everyone else have to take great pains to block them.
So, I guess that this is a lesson to everyone. Check to make sure that nobody has been messing with code on your site. The good news, I guess, is that this was probably not targeted at me, but was rather an automated computer looking for a vulnerable system. I have uploaded a later version of WordPress that should have greater security, and I have another plugin running that is supposed to help block these things. Unfortunately, not all of the features from my old site (like the blog role) are working yet. It is rather infuriating that people like this are making me take time out to combat them at a time when I am already so very busy that I am having trouble keeping up.

I’m a fan of this site and I hate to see how frustrated you are. Its really a shame that some inconsiderate jerks would do such a thing. I don’t know how to say, but you have my sympathies and I hope that everything will begin to run smoothly again. Good Luck!

I too send my condolences. On an unrelated note, I have a question concerning an article I just read on Space.com about a telescope on the far side of the moon: how would the data from such a telescope best be relayed to Earth? How far from the far/near side meridian would such an installation need to be?
