Occultation Photographs

Last week, I wrote about the occultation of Venus.  You can read that posting to find out more about the event.  I got several comments on the posting.  One reader, Phillip Uttz took some photos of the event.  He emailed them to me and said that I could post them, but I was at the Johnson Space Center the last several days and didn’t get a chance to do any blogging (I barely had time to check email, or even breathe!).  The photos were taken from Mt. Wilson, in California.

So, here are his photos of the occultation:

While the entire occultation occurred after sunrise here in Texas, it was obviously still dark in California when it started, though twilight was clearly getting underway by the time it ended.

Thanks Phillip for the wonderful photos!  I am thinking of showing them in my astronomy class, too.
