Papers and Meteors

Well, we watched for meteors last night. But, it was a typical pitiful Leonid shower. I remember watching Leonid showers in the past that had only three or four Leonid meteors in an hour. We did see a few meteors early on. These were Earth grazers — meteors that were skimming past the Earth rather than hitting head on. Now, reports are that there were a lot of very bright meteors seen from Europe. Spaceweather.com has posted a meteor gallery of submitted photos. About the the time that the shower should have picked up for us here in Texas, it fizzled out. Oh, well. The Geminid meteors in mid December should be good. Now, if only they weren’t during final exams week …
I don’t really have time to do much more of a post today, though. I’ll have some more the next few days. I am rather totally swamped with papers.
This has been a tough semester, and I have a mountain of papers to catch up on grading. I know what I’ll be doing over the Thanksgiving holidays! For those of my readers from outside the US, we have a national holiday this coming Thursday. At my college, we get Thursday and Friday off. We get a week off in the spring semester in mid March. That seems to work nicely, since it is right in the middle of the semester. In this fall semester, though, our only holidays are Labor Day at the first of September and these two days. It is nice to have a break in the middle to catch up. For some reason, this semester seems to be one of my toughest in a long time, and I am totally buried in papers!
So, it’s now back to grading. I’ll say more astronomy things in later posts.

Oh, and thanks for adding me to your sidebar under Space Blogs.
That’s some blogroll you’ve got.

Thanks, Quasar9. Ed (Robot Guy: http://robot_guy.blogspot.com/ ) maintains the Space Blogs list, and I just borrow it. That keeps me from having to keep checking to see who is current.
