Telescope Observing
Amateur astronomers sometimes get together, set up telescopes, and look at the sky in events called star parties. I help out with these events in my area from time to time. These are a great chance for people who have never looked through a telescope to do so.
There will be a rather large star party in the North Texas area on November 17, 2007. This will be the Eleventh Annual North Texas Skywatch Star Party. It will be held at the Lake Mineral Wells State Park (located between Weatherford and Lake Mineral Wells, Texas, almost to Mineral Wells). There will be speakers late in the afternoon, a keynote speaker at sunset, and telescopes! Amateur astronomers are encouraged to bring their own telescopes. And anyone from the public who wants to learn something about astronomy can come enjoy the event! There is no charge for the star party, but you will have to pay the normal park admission.
I will be hosting a star party in December (date to be announced) at Dinosaur Valley State Park, in Glen Rose, Texas.
